<p>The Recipe:<br />
3/4 of a cup of shortening, soft. 1 tspn of vanilla, 1 cup of sifted all purpose flour, 1 tspn of salt, 1/2 tspn of soda, 3 cups of oatmeal uncooked, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 egg, 1/4 cup of water.</p>
<p>Beat shortening, sugar, eggs, water &amp; vanilla together until creamy. Sift together, flour, salt, &amp; soda. Add to creamed mixture, blend well. Stir in oats. Drop by teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheets. Bake in preheated oven @ 350 degreesfor 12 &#8211; 15 minutes. For a slight variation, add chopped nutmeats, coconut, raisins or chocolate chips. Makes 5 dozen possibly a bit more with the addition of the extra ingredients mentioned last.</p>
