Indian Lady Maker Unknown Collector Cookie Jar
Maker Unknown, Indian Woman Collector Cookie Jar. No one has ever stepped up to the plate to claim fame for making this interesting and one of a kind jar. In most books that list this particular jar, they have it listed in the Black Americana section. So, I guess there is question as to actual ethnic background it was to represent. From the dress and slightly reddish colored dark skin tones, I would tend to agree that it was intended to be an Indian woman. She doesn’t have any chips or cracks, just a lot of lighter crazing and one dark craze line that is straight and about an inch long. It’s a smooth area to the touch, so, I would not classify it as a crack but just a darkened craze line in the glaze. This happens from dirt, cookie grease, etc, getting into these craze lines. It will not show up in a photo its so fine. There is some minor paint loss on the jar since it is cold-painted. The zig zag line going about the dress near the bottom is nearly 100% intact and there are a couple of missing paints areas on the face and hair as seen in the photos. This is to be expected with a vintage jar of this age and being cold-painted. She’s a very interesting jar and not much is known about her, but she is also a very difficult to find jar esp in this condition with the paint intact. Some books spike in value at between $250 – $400. She’s still an attractive and interesting jar just the same in her right. Someone thought so or she wouldn’t be listed in the books. Since this is a cold-painted jar, we highly recommend purchasing one of our hand-made soft cloths listed under the “HANDCRAFTED TEXTILES AND POTTERY LINK NEAR THE TOP OF THE HOME PAGE. They’re only $6.99 and crafted entirely by hand. These are soft cloths that will not scratch the surfaces esp for the cold painted jars. If purchased with a jar, there will be no additional shipping fees. If you are so charged for shipping this will be refunded to you if you have purchased one with one of our jars. There is a photo available of an example of these great cleaning cloths at that link mentioned within the site. Luzianne Mammy by Carol Gifford Collector Cookie Jar
Luzianne Mammy Collector Cookie Jar made by Carol Gifford. Ms Gifford is well known nationally for her pottery work. She did a nice job of trying to capture the essence of the original & well known Luzianne Mammy cookie jar we all love. While Ms. Gifford’s detailing is not as clear as the original, the image she created with this fine jar is crisp and clear in its own merit with great color. It is signed Carol Gifford on the underside. The signature impression was difficult to capture with a photo. I tried to enhance the photo to make it show up better for your preview. No chips, no cracks or damage of any kind. The base has a nice ring to it when tapped. I believe these jars were created in a limited series, a limited number. Not sure how many were made but here’s one fine example to add to your collection. Although it is a reproduction, its not just any reproduction that someone was trying to fake a buyer with. I offer you now, Carol Gifford’s rendition of the Luzianne Mammy cookie jar. They don’t come up very often! Mosaic Tile Blue Mammy Collector Cookie Jar
Mosaic Tile Blue Mammy Collector Cookie Jar. Mint condition, no chips or cracks. This jar is unmarked but has always been attributed to “Mosaic Tile”. None of the Mosaic Tile Mammy jars were ever marked. Yes, they are reproducing the Yellow Mosaic Tile Mammy, but I have never heard of them reproducing the blue one! And, the reproductions do not have the details that the originals do. This one is VERY well detailed. I am very confident that this is an original jar. The detail on this jar is wonderful & she’s a very heavy jar, too, just as the authentic jar should be. She’s wide, she’s tall, a pleasant pale blue and she’s in superb condition. This jar is much more difficult to find than the original Yellow Mosaic Tile Mammy is. Make someone a great Christmas gift for their jar collection, esp if they like collecting Mammy jars, this is the one! Little Red Riding Hood ~Black Americana~ Collector Cookie Jar
Little Red Riding Hood Collector Cookie Jar. Although the bottom is actually signed “Hullware” and “Little Red Riding Hood Pat Pending #967”, I am confident that this jar is a reproduction probably made in the mid to late 70’s. There aren’t any chips or cracks, however there is one small factory flaw as seen in the photo showing the underside of the lid…nothing that effects value or structure, it’s a glazed over separation in the pottery. The cape shows 2 or 3 spots that first appear to be wear in the paint but I believe that this too, is something that was a part of the manufacturer’s process in order to give it a used appearance. I believe the missing paint was done on purpose. These spots are quite small, maybe ¼ of an inch and hardly noticed. Overall, the jar really has a great look. The colors are strong and the jar does have a great “ring” when tapped. Interesting flip on the original Hull Red Riding Hood Jar. Overall, she stands about 11 ½ inches tall. Nice jar. I wouldn’t offer it if it wasn’t & if I didn’t think that you’d enjoy it! You decide the category to place it in your collection….Black Americana or Red Riding Hood! Gone With The Wind Mammy Collector Cookie Jar
Gone With The Wind Mammy Collector Cookie Jar! By the Heirloom Tradition, a division of Hamilton Gifts. While this jar is not made by the same company that Rhett & Scarlett were, this is a companion jar to those other two. The image of Hattie McDaniels or Mammy as seen in Gone With The Wind. Fabulous movie & wonderfully detailed jar. She’s not very tall but she is a wonderful replication of Mammy. This one is the light brown skin mammy and she’s showing off her petticoats if you remember that scene from the movie when she finally wore the set of petticoats that Rhett bought her. No chips or cracks. Bottom is signed as started in the first line. Great jar to add to your collection particularly if you already have Rhett & Scarlett. These are now getting very hard to find and quickly moving up in the ranks as highly collectable jars.
